Pendulum Glucose Control is a Medical Probiotic that is specifically designed for people with type 2 diabetes. It contains targeted strains of probiotics and a prebiotic that help restore the body’s natural ability to metabolize fiber in order to help manage blood sugar. Our combination of targeted probiotic strains cannot be found in any other probiotic on the market.
Diet and exercise are important to help control blood glucose, but often they’re not enough. As we age and get exposed to different environments and stresses, our bodies often lose specific beneficial bacteria that support effective processing of sugars, carbohydrates, and fibers. These beneficial bacteria live along the length of your digestive tract and prepare your body to process the sugars that are entering through the gut by starting the metabolism process. Through years of research, Pendulum has pinpointed these beneficial bacteria that are missing or less abundant in people with type 2 diabetes and has developed Pendulum Glucose Control to address these changes.
Pendulum Glucose Control contains: 5 commensal probiotic bacterial strains and a prebiotic that are Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS). The specific ingredients are: Proprietary Probiotic Blend (Clostridium beijerinckii WB-STR-0005, Clostridium butyricum WB-STR-0006, Akkermansia muciniphila WB-STR-0001, Eubacterium hallii WB-STR-0008, Bifidobacterium infantis 100), inulin (chicory). For Patent Information, visit: https://pendulumlife.com/pages/science
Probiotics (bacterial strains) need prebiotics (food) to survive. Our formulation contains a prebiotic, inulin, which is an essential food for several of our strains. In a preclinical trial, we observed that without the prebiotic (food), there was significantly diminished efficacy of the probiotic strains.
Pendulum Glucose Control is classified as a medical food. Our product can be purchased directly from our website at PendulumLife.com and does not require a prescription from your doctor. However, the product is for use only under physician supervision as part of your total diabetes management plan.
Pendulum Glucose Control is not currently covered by insurance.
Our clinical trial showed improvement in A1C levels in people already taking Metformin. Clinical trials are still needed to understand how Pendulum Glucose Control works with other glucose lowering medications. Pendulum Glucose Control should be used only under physician supervision as part of your total diabetes management plan.
Yes. Our clinical trial showed improvement in A1C levels in people already taking Metformin. Use only under physician supervision as part of your total diabetes management plan.
Pendulum Glucose Control helps manage healthy A1C and blood glucose levels*. While post-meal glucose spikes may show changes sooner, the A1C measurement, which is the gold standard for measuring glucose control, requires 3 months to see the full effect. Red blood cells regenerate every 3 months on average, which means that it will take time to see how any changes in blood glucose control will impact your A1C levels. Therefore, it can take 3 months before you see changes to your A1C reading while using Pendulum Glucose Control.
Reference: A nutrition study demonstrated statistically and clinically significant reductions in A1C and blood sugar spikes in people with type 2 diabetes. It was randomized, double-blinded, placebo controlled, and across multiple sites in the U.S.
While yogurt, kefir, kombucha, and sauerkraut provide a source of bacteria, these strains are not targeted for type 2 diabetes. Pendulum Glucose Control is formulated with a uniquely-selected set of strains of beneficial bacteria and fiber (probiotics + prebiotic) to specifically benefit people with type 2 diabetes, as shown by our clinical trial.

The human microbiome is an ecosystem of trillions of bacteria, viruses and fungi that live on or in our bodies. The microbiome works symbiotically with the body to perform essential tasks from helping digestion, to supporting the development of the immune system and preventing infections. These living microorganisms, also known as beneficial bacteria, can offer diverse health benefits. Read more about the microbiome on our blog: www.pendulumlife.com/blogs/news/the-gut-microbiome-what-you-should-know
Over time, through genetic predispositions, changes to diet and exercise, stress, aging and other factors, our microbiome can lose the strains that help us metabolize food correctly. Specifically, people with type 2 diabetes have been shown to be deficient in certain beneficial bacteria that metabolize fiber (a carb) into useful nutrients and short-chain fatty acids like butyrate. One of the key features of butyrate is that it is responsible for initiating metabolic pathways, specifically GLP-1 and insulin secretion. In people with T2D, who are missing these key strains, the fiber they eat is literally going right through them instead of being metabolized into metabolites such as butyrate, stimulating GLP-1 release, and contributing to insulin and glucose regulation.
As our behaviors and environments evolve and our microbiomes change, many people start to lose diversity of their microbiome. Those changes can result in a reduction or loss of specific functions such as healthy metabolism or appropriate immune responses. In turn, the reduction or losses of functionality can lead to the inability to produce essential vitamins, to fend off bad bacteria, and to metabolize foods. Ultimately, if a microbiome is altered in these ways, it can cause or make a person more susceptible to illness and disease.
Yes, it is possible to make improvements to the microbiome. Changing the diet can help diversify the microbiome (especially diets high in fiber), but is insufficient to obtain specific microbes or replace lost microbiome-driven functions. People with type 2 diabetes have lost part of the ability to metabolize fiber and produce butyrate, which helps to manage blood sugar and regulate insulin. Simply replacing butyrate as a supplement isn’t enough as it matters where the butyrate is produced in the gut. In a clinical trial, we were able to demonstrate that one may be able to improve the microbiome of people with type 2 diabetes by adding precise prebiotic and probiotics that provide distinct nutritional requirements specific to the disease.
Use of the product in patients without diabetes has not been studied. The product is for use only under a physician’s supervision.
